No Trial for Governor Fletcher

There will be no trial in November for Governor Ernie Fletcher.

A special judge rules Fletcher will not be prosecuted as long as he's governor of the state of Kentucky.

Special Judge David Melcher says the governor is protected by an executive immunity.

An indictment against Fletcher charged him with criminal conspiracy, official misconduct, and violating a prohibition against political discrimination.

Melcher stayed the case until Fletcher’s term expires or he is impeached by the legislature.

Melcher says he would enter an order later this month formalizing his ruling.
