Fletcher supporter loses committee seat.

Governor Ernie Fletcher is dealing with yet another blow from some in the Republican Party.

The embattled governor wanted Larry Forgy to be elected to the Republican Party's 54-member executive committee. Forgy has been an avid supporter of Fletcher, who is under indictment for allegedly rewarding political supporters with protected state jobs.

But party members selected Stephen Huffman Saturday during a secret ballot vote. Huffman is the chief of staff to Lieutenant Governor Steve Pence.

Pence dropped off Fletcher's 2007 re-election ticket in May.

Fletcher has accused the Democratic Attorney General of conducting a politically motivated investigation into his administration's hiring practices.

But that hasn't stopped the political repercussions. Some prominent Republicans have begun to distance themselves from Fletcher and questioning whether he could win a second term.
