An accident involving a four-wheeler kills a Monroe County child.
The accident happened on Sunday afternoon when two brothers, ages seven and five, were playing outside at a friends house.
Kentucky State Police say the 7-year old brother was playing on and around an ATV which didn't happen to be running.
The ATV vehicle popped out of gear and into neutral rolling five to seven feet.
"He apparently knocked it out of gear and it rolled down an embankment and struck his younger brother which was 5 years old,” says Kentucky State Police Trooper, Dwaine Barnett.
Kentucky State Police say it isn't clear just yet whether or not the brother was actually on the ATV when the accident happened.
The Monroe County EMS crew was immediately called to the scene.
"Once they arrived they brought him back to the Monroe County Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the Monroe County Coroner,” says Barnett.
When it comes to situations like this one Trooper Barnett does have some advice to offer to everyone.
"As a parent, you need to be aware of where your ATV is at and who's around it at all times. Of course, take the keys out. This was just one of those types of accidents that maybe you couldn't prepare for,” says Barnett.
The Kentucky State Police are still investigating this situation and aren't releasing the names of the brothers at this time until the investigation is complete. No other information could be released at this time.
