Defense Department documents say there were 49 people dismissed at Fort Campbell. That was up from 19 in 2004. It was the single-biggest increase in military discharges anywhere.

Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke confirmed the information.

A spokeswoman at Fort Campbell declined to comment on the statistics.

Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri had the highest number of discharges under the policy in 2005 with 60.
