If you were caught traveling in and around Ohio County this morning, then you were no stranger to the slick conditions that plagued area roadways.

J.R. Roby, an employee at a local auto center, told me that he had seen several accidents while traveling in and along the Natcher Parkway, mainly before 11 AM.

"From Fordsfield to Beaver Dam, on Highway 69, I saw two cars off the road, one van and another car that was tore-up real bad, looked like it had been in a wreck," says Roby.

He adds, "The van was tore-up on the back-end pretty bad. But, the girl was alright that was in the van. I stopped to check on her.

At 2:40 PM, rain had begun to fall in the city of Hartford once again. Even at this time of the afternoon, temperatures still remained well below freezing, causing some headaches on area roadways.

Sleet and freezing rain form when warmer, less-dense air overruns colder, more dense-air at the surface. As precipitation falls, instead of melting before hitting the ground, it remains frozen or freezes upon contact with a surface that is below 32-degrees. Thus, resulting in an ice storm.

For the folks in Ohio and surrounding counties, it was a worse-case scenario when Freezing Rain Advisories were issued earlier this morning.

In Fordsfield, they were sleet covered, which was not too-slick. But, the closer I got to Beaver Dam, I ran into freezing rain," says Roby.
