BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- Four years after a tsunami that killed more than 200,000 people, a report says that Indonesia's coral reefs have bounced back with surprising speed.
The Wildlife Conservation Society says the examination of dozens of sites shows rapid growth of young corals in areas where the tsunami caused damage.
Scientists also report the return of new generations of corals in areas previously damaged by destructive fishing.
The Society's Stuart Campbell says it's a "a great story of ecosystem resilience and recovery."
Aside from their beauty and ecological importance, the reefs supply fish to eat and sell, and they produce tourism dollars from recreational diving.
