The Kentucky State Line Bingo Hall is believed to be a complete loss after a fire started in the kitchen.

It happened Saturday night in Simpson County, just on the Kentucky/Tennessee line, and brought fire departments from Simpson county, as well as Orlinda, Portland, and White House, Tennessee to the scene.

Sunday afternoon, the owner and several managers of the hall were left searching through the damage.

When managers at the bingo hall noticed the fire, they quickly evacuated around two-hundred people.

"We pointed the exits out, and everybody calmly got out of the building and away from the building," said Cindy Glasgow, Chairperson for Franklin-Simpson High School at the bingo hall.

And the owner of the property is thankful no one was injured.

"They did the right thing by getting the people out with no panic," said Mike Rowland, owner of the property. "Then they had to get out themselves because this fire was fast. It moved through this building. In less than twenty minutes it was totally engulfed."

They were all surprised at how fast the fire moved.

"You may not think a metal building would burn," said Rowland. "This one did, so you're not really safe in a metal building, as you would think."

Three days a week, different groups and organizations in Simpson County, such as the African American Heritage Center and Franklin-Simpson High School, each use the facility through the help of a chairperson to gain money.

Many say this fire could hurt these organizations.

"They'll be taking a loss because it looks like we're going to be down about four months," said Glasgow.

But despite the fire, they say they will reopen, and they hope their regular bingo players return.

"I'm in a good location," said Rowland. "We're directly across from the horse track facility, a beautiful facility, and I intend on building back, yes."

"For the nine years that we've been here, we've had regulars, some of them never missed a day, and we're going to miss them," said Glasgow. "We hope that when we get back up and going that they'll come back."

Although the fire did start in the kitchen, the exact cause of the blaze is still unknown, and an investigation is underway.
