Only a year ago, eight-year-old John Lovan's sports career appeared to be over. His foot was severed in a lawnmower accident last May, but after receiving a prostheses, he has come back to the place he loves, the baseball diamond.
Lovan's mom Sherry credits the support of organizations like Shriner's for helping family, friends, and classmates learn how to support John. She also expresses gratitude to the local Dream Factory for sending the entire family to Disney World last Christmas, a lifelong dream for John.
When he's not knocking in home runs or studying arithmetic, John takes time to talk to groups of kids his age at local schools, educating them on the basics of lawnmower safety. He hopes to prevent other injuries like his.
