One area program hopes to keep girls off drugs by getting them interested in theater and encouraging high self-esteem.
Girls Inc. along with Lifeskills and Western's Theater Department are sponsoring Project CAFE. It's a program where 50 girls rehearse for two weeks to put on a performance for their parents.
Each day they also take a break from rehearsal and sit in on an anti-drug class taught by Lifeskills. Organizers of the program say teaching girls confidence in themselves will help them deal with peer pressure in the future.
