Ben Drummond, 34, was arrested Thursday, charged with the third degree rape of a female student. The prosecution claims the girl was 15 years old when the alleged relationship began in June of 2004.
But Drummond’s attorney says the girl has already denied any relationship existed. John Frith Stewart says, "When they questioned the young lady, she made a written statement denying that she had had any relations with him whatsoever. And they said that they had that statement signed and in writing."
Drummond is free on a $20,000 bond. He, his wife Angela, and their two attorneys, held a news conference on Elkton’s town square today. Angela had this question for Ben’s accuser, "I just want to ask her why she's doin' this to us and our family, because she has about killed me, and Ben, and the girls. And the girls have no idea what's goin' on. And I just want to ask her to please come forward, and please be honest. And some day she'll know, when she has a family, what she's done to us."
Drummond teaches history and coaches boys’ soccer at Todd Central High School. He intends to plead "not guilty" at his arraignment Monday afternoon.
