A western Kentucky woman is charged with criminal abuse after admitting to police she placed her two-year-old stepson in bath water hotter than 140 degrees.
Twenty-four year old Javanthia Gremore of Paducah at first told authorities she found the boy unconscious after he fell into a bathtub of hot water.
The child, whose name was not released, is reported in critical condition at the Vanderbilt Hospital burns unit.
Detectives tested the water temperature and said it measured more than 140 degrees.
Medical personnel determined the boy had been immersed in hot water and that he had clear burn injuries to his lower body.
Gremore was being held in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
