Russellville residents got their first look at proposals for a new southern parkway on Tuesday night at a public forum held by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The crowd saw three different options, and was able to speak to the engineers who designed each plan. Citizens are looking for a way to divert truck traffic from downtown, because of safety concerns and traffic congestion problems.
Most residents believed that the shorter the bypass is, the more likely truckers are to use the bypass instead of 9th St., as they are accustomed to doing now.
Chief District Engineer Greg Meredith said each option has its' own pluses and minuses, but the city will make the ultimate decision, and will have plenty of time. Funding for the project will not become available until 2007.
