With Fourth of July weekend traffic around South Central Kentucky at near-record levels, the Kentucky State Police and local law enforcement have been busy this weekend. KSP reports they have made several DUI arrests, and dozens of traffic violation/speeding stops.
Here are a few tips from the KSP for ways to keep yourself safe during a traffic stop, and keep the safety officer at ease:
-Turn on your interior dome light, place both hands on the top of the steering wheel
-Remain in your car unless asked to step out by the officer
-Keep your proof of insurance and car registration handy, but don't go looking for it until the officer asks you to. When the officer approaches he doesn't know what you may be looking for when you're digging around in the glove compartment.
The KSP says the best way to avoid the unpleasantness of a traffic stop is to be a patient driver, and allow extra time to get to and from your destination.
