Football Player Murder Trial

Attorneys for a man awaiting a re-trial in a 1994 sniper-style shooting of a University of Kentucky football player want the case moved out of Fayette County because of pretrial publicity.

Shane Ragland's attorney, David Broderick says previous news reports about the case make a fair trial difficult, at best.

Fayette Circuit Judge Thomas Clark scheduled a hearing on the request for November 30th.

Ragland is awaiting a second trial on charges that he shot and killed Trent DiGiuro while DiGiuro was celebrating his 21st birthday in 1994.

The state Supreme Court ordered a new trial in March based on inadmissible evidence concerning a bullet.

A Fayette Circuit Court jury convicted the 33-year-old Ragland in March 2002.

Ragland has been free on one (M) million dollars bond since July.
