Five years ago, Kenney and another professor traveled to New York City a few days after the attacks. Several other WKU photojournalism students were also there.
The group took photos and interviewed families who were still looking to find their loved ones. Kenney says the photos serve as a reminder of the horrific events.
"When I look at my pictures, I can remember exactly what was going on, the sounds, mostly the silence and shock. I don't have a great memory and the pictures serve as a memory, for not only other people, but for me as well."
Kenney told WBKO he feels that in some way, he did his small part to help.
