Riccardo Vettraino was convicted by a jury for the murder of Julie Speakman and the attempted murder of her husband John Speakman. Today the conviction was overturned by Judge John Minton.
Minton ruled Vettraino must receive a new trial because the defense and prosecution did not have access to all the evidence discovered by Kentuky State Police.
In September 2002, KSP officer Steve Fitts reported that he had a found a silver semi-automatic gun in the Speakman's nightstand. During the investigation and trial, he did not report this information.
Judge Minton has set a pre-trial date of August 25,2003.
Vettraino will be brought to the Warren County Detention Center and held on $500,000 bond.
