Motorcyclist Killed; Another Charged

Alcohol is to blame for an accident that killed a motorcyclist late Sept. 6, 2006, on Morgantown Road.

Kentucky State Police say 47-year-old Ralph Adkins was traveling on Morgantown Road just before 10 p.m. when he left the roadway and hit a utility pole.

Fifty-two-year-old David McKinney was behind Adkins on a motorcycle when the crash took place. Police say he was unable to avoid the falling utility pole and power lines. McKinney was struck and killed.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jay Morgan was the third vehicle to approach the collision. Morgan's vehicle also left the roadway in an effort to avoid the crash.

Police say the driver of the first vehicle, Ralph Adkins was taken to the Warren County Jail. He's charged with driving under the influence and reckless homicide.
