Miner Drug Testing

By Sarah Goebel |

Dozens of Kentucky coal miners are testing positive for drug use.

A new drug testing law went into effect July 12, 2006. The new law allows companies to choose the type of drug they test for and how often they will do the test.

Nearly 60 miners from 28 different companies reported positive test results. Miners who test positive are dismissed and their certification is suspended.

More than 30 miners have appealed their ruling, saying they were taking painkillers for back or knee pain.
