Staff Senate Favors Domestic Partners Benefits

Consideration of providing domestic-partner benefits for faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky has been endorsed by the Staff Senate by more than a two-to-one margin..

On Sept. 7, 2006, the secret ballot showed 55 to 25 in favor of the resolution. One member abstained; 24 members were absent or excused. Staff Senate Chairman Kyle Dippery said the adopted resolution would be sent to UK's human resources department.

The UK Board of Trustees' human resources committee gave its approval Sept. 5, 2006, for the formation of a committee to make a recommendation on domestic partner benefits by January or February 2007.
