A Bowling Green jury found Roger Epperson guilty of two counts of murder by complicity and one count each of first-degree burglary and robbery.
Epperson was charged with the double-shooting murders of an elderly Jackson County couple on Father's Day 1985. The jury expected to receive the case yesterday, but were delayed by negotiations over the final jury instructions on how to determine guilt or innocence, because of the complexities of a death penalty case.
The trial now enters its second phase, the penalty phase, when one of four potential sentences will be decided, with the death penalty as an option.
Epperson's prior convictions including his death penalty conviction for the murder of 23-year-old UK student Tammy Acker in August 1985.
