Magnesium Fire at Bowling Green Factory

A Magnesium fire at Owl's Head Alloys in Bowling Green kept fire fighters on the scene for hours Saturday night.

The fire started at the plant on Mitch McConnell, located in Bowling Green's Industrial Park, around 7:45 p.m.

Because of the magnesium component to the fire, special equipment was required to fight it, authorities say water only makes a magnesium fire worse.

The state Hazardous Materials Fire Marshall was on the scene, but determined the fire was not hazardous enough to evacuate the community.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire, but five employees were evacuated from the plant.

The factory, which makes Aluminum Alloy wheel fittings, is owned by David Bradford.
