No one was injured in a structure fire that consumed a Simpson County home Thursday.
Franklin-Simpson Fire Rescue responded to the fire on Henson Road around 9:30 a.m., requesting the mutual aid of the Plano, Woodburn, and Alvaton fire departments.
When they arrived, they found a "fully involved" house fire along the Warren and Simpson County line.
"She was working on a horse shelter we've been working on, and she heard the fire alarm beepers go off," Simpson County resident Ron Webb explains. "She came around and found smoke coming out the front window."
Ron's wife, Brenda, watched the fire from feet away, but Ron was a half hour away, working to ready the Corvette Plant to reopen on Monday.
"I got a call at work that my wife was in an accident," Ron recalls. "They didn't say it was a house fire. I came around the corner, and I came down the road here, and I saw it. That was the first time it hit me."
With the smoke cleared, Brenda and Ron have seen the extent of the day's damage.
Still, the couple says they're thankful for their safety, thankful for their neighbor's support, and thankful to hold a job during tough economic times.
"With it just being me and her, we were very fortunate that we are insured, and I'm fortunate enough to have a good job," Ron says. "At least it was just the two of us and not a huge family, so we'll be able to recover. My wife wasn't harmed, and that's what really counts. The house is replaceable, but my wife's not. As long as she wasn't hurt, that's all I'm concerned about."
Chief Mark Halcomb of Franklin-Simpson Fire Rescue says his department hopes to confirm the cause of the fire by Friday.
