LEXINGTON, KY. (AP) -- Two sheriff's deputies in Lexington and a former deputy have been charged with taking confiscated guns, with two weapons being sold at pawn shops.

Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt said Sgt. Merle McDaniel, 55, Maj. Chris Tudor, 37, and former Sgt. Bill Beers, 47, were charged after an internal investigation.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported that investigation revealed that guns confiscated by McDaniel and Beers had not been booked into the office's property vault.

Witt told a press conference Thursday two of the weapons were sold at pawn shops. All but one of the guns has been recovered and logged into the sheriff's evidence vault or returned to the owners.

Beers and Tudor both declined to comment when the paper reached them by phone Thursday. McDaniel could not be reached.
