FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- A worker at a home in eastern Kentucky that cares for the disabled has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a patient.

Attorney General Jack Conway said in a written statement that Matthew Bortles of Soldier in Carter County also pleaded guilty Tuesday to tampering with evidence and knowing abuse of a vulnerable adult.

He was charged in the 2007 death of Michael Price, a mentally disabled man who lived at Community Presence Inc. in Carter County.

Another caregiver at the home, Branden Starostka of Grayson, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and wanton abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Bortles will serve eight years in prison and Starostka five.

Sentencing was set for April 20.
