Hometown Hero: Blind Broadcaster

For many Western students making it through a semester can be tough with studying, papers, and tests, but imagine doing all of that and facing a disability.

Western senior, Lisa Newston, is blind. She was born with glaucoma and lost her vision completely when she was 14. Despite this Lisa reads stories at Western's Public Radio.

News Director, Dan Modlin, records a story for Lisa. She types it in Braille. She then reads it on the air. Although staff members see her determination as an inspiration, Lisa doesn't.

Lisa says she has just grown accustomed to her lifestyle. In fact she says sometimes she doesn't work hard enough and she says she needs to push herself even more.
