KY Test Scores

New test results show Kentucky students are excelling in reading.
The state has historically struggled with high levels of illiteracy.
Nearly 477,000 students took the reading portion of the Commonwealth Accountability Testing System exam in April.
The majority of those students scored either "proficient" or "distinguished."
Those are the highest ratings awarded.
Students were tested in a variety of subjects including reading, writing, math, science, and vocational studies.
Instead of the conventional grading scale, students are deemed as Novice, Apprentice, Proficient, or Distinguished.
The Kentucky Department of Education says the test results are encouraging, especially in the basic core subject areas.
