Proposed Muhlenberg Co. School Raises Stink

By  |

Some Muhlenberg County parents are upset over the school board's selection of a site for a new elementary school. The 44-acre tract of land in the south part of the county sits less than a mile away from a series of chicken houses.

Parents say they are concerned over the air quality around the school, especially for asthmatic students. Superintendent Dale Todd says several air quality tests have been conducted, and all have come back clean.

The vote was 3-2, with the school board member representing the district where the land is located voting "no" and voicing his concerns. Supt. Todd says he will continue to examine the property, and the system does not plan on purchasing the land for another six weeks.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the new school is scheduled for next spring.
