A Green County community mourns the loss of a 10 year old boy, accidentally shot and killed Tuesday morning.
Kentucky State Police Detective Joel Woods says the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Central Time on Tuesday, in the boys' rural home about 11 miles west of Greensburg. Their mother and step-father had already left for work.
The boys were waiting for the school bus with another child when the 12 year old took a shotgun out of the closet and accidentally shot his 10 year old brother, Aaron Judd, in the chest.
Detective Woods says he was told the 12 year old was given the old shotgun as a keepsake, but no one thought it actually worked.
He says it is unclear where the boy got the ammunition though... since his step-father had locked all other guns and bullets in a safe.
Woods says this is being treated as an accident and no charges have been filed.
Aaron's classmates at Pierce Elementary School in Green County have been offered grief counseling... which will continue for the rest of this week.
Visitation for Aaron Judd starts Wednesday at 4 p.m. Central Time at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg... and will continue on Thursday all day long.
The funeral will take place Friday at 11.
