The discussion of tearing down some abandoned homes was the big issue on the Bowling Green City Commission's agenda on Oct. 17, 2006. Commissioner Mark Alcott said he is frustrated with how slow the sky-pac project is moving and doesn't want the preservation of abandoned homes along Center Street to kill the sky-pac plan.
The Commission voted four to one to demolish the city owned houses between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. Mayor Elaine Walker was the one decenting vote on the issue. On Oct. 12, 2006, the Sky-Pac board called an impromptu meeting to discuss what to do with the houses. At that meeting the Sky-Pac board voted four to three against a proposal by Walker to preserve the homes. At the meeting on Oct. 17, 2006, Walker recomended the issue be tabled until next month when city commissioners could sit down with Sky-Pac and layout a timeline for the project. A second reading on this issue will be at the next meeting on Nov. 8, 2006.
