A representative of Wilson Chevrolet Pontiac Buick GMC in Franklin tells WBKO, they have received a notification from General Motors, and their contract will not be renewed in October 2010.

However, the owners of Leachman Buick Pontiac GMC in Bowling Green, Bailey-Gibson Buick Pontiac GMC in Glasgow, and Dan Powers GM Center in Leitchfield all say they will continue carrying GM vehicles on their lots.

"We've been here 60 years, and we're not going anywhere"

It's a statement of confidence outside Leachman Buick Pontiac GMC during an uncertain time.

"We've had customers question, 'Are y'all going to be here?', 'Is my warranty going to be good?' So, we decided to put that on the front of our showroom to let them know that not only have we been here 60 years, we're going to continue to be here," explains Leachman owner David Jaggers.

"I don't think anyone's confidant right now," adds Bailey-Gibson owner Danny Gibson. "I think that with everything that's going on with the industry, there's a lot of uncertainty out there. That doesn't mean we're going to stay."

"Many of these are legacy stores," Jaggers continues. "Their father or grandfather were dealers, they had plans their son or daughter would be dealers. So, it's just a sad day for business altogether."

The dealers affected will continue to carry GM until contracts expire at the end of next year.

"It would give those dealers time if they don't think they were a dealer that should have been eliminated," David says. "It gives them an opportunity to appeal to GM and plead their case."

For the remainder of dealerships, it's going to be business as usual.

"Bailey Gibson plans to be in the business ten years from now," Danny concludes. "We're going to let each day bring what it may."

Several other area GM dealerships have not yet confirmed to us if they have received a notification.

General Motors has opted not to publicly announce the dealerships that will close.
