Kentucky State Police are continuing to investigate a former Simpson County Sheriff. After receiving a request from the Sheriff's Department state police are looking into possible misuse of Sheriff Department funds and the mishandling of evidence by former Sheriff Joe Palma.
After Palma left the office last year he allegedly took some supplies and evidence with him. State Police received a search warrant and discovered many items that belonged to the Sheriff's Department. Several of the items found in the house include an evidence ledger book, ammunition, and personnel files.
In addition Judge Executive, Jim Henderson, tells Newscenter Thirteen after looking at the department's audit recently Palma was overpaying himself and using the sheriff's funds for his personal vehicles. The state attorney general's office is expected to appoint a special prosecutor to the case soon.
