Mammoth Cave Bacteria High

A part of Mammoth Cave National Park is closed to tourist after elevated levels of fecal coli form and e-coli bacteria were found in groundwater.

Officials said today that a Western Kentucky University researcher had been collecting water samples at Charon’s Cascade for water chemistry testing on October 20th and found the presence of the contaminants.

Park Superintendent Patrick Reed says park scientist and researchers are exploring every possible source. All tours have been temporarily transferred to the Frozen Niagara section.
