Court officials say there are too many cases requiring drug and alcohol testing and not enough lab workers close by to efficiently deal with alleged drug and alcohol offenders.
Judges and attorneys say that means offenders could end up back on the streets without serving time or without getting the rehabilitation they need.
Judge Sam Potter led the discussion at the Warren County Justice Center concerning the problem Thursday afternoon.
Some think the state should move the lab in Madisonville to Bowling Green. Others think a satellite lab should open up at WKU's Center for Research and Development.
The Chemistry Department, along with state officials, will look into accreditation standards in the coming weeks.
