Operation Christmas Child kicks off this week.
Each year, millions of gift-filled shoe boxes are delivered to hurting children around the world. WBKO visited the collection center today where volunteers were very busy.
Tables full of shoe boxes line the Forest Park Baptist Church hall - the collection center for this project for the past nine years.
The shoeboxes are headed to over 90 international destinations to bring a glimmer of hope to children in war-torn countries, victims of extreme poverty and survivors of natural disasters.
Volunteers said regardless of religious affiliation, cultural background, or financial status, this is a way to help those most in need of joy and love - believe in hope and the spirit of giving.
Last year Operation Christmas Child collected about 9,800 boxes, this year they anticipate 12,000.
