Fourteen Moss Middle students showed up with much needed supplies, helped with routine chores and gave the organization a little over $600. Instead of asking others for money these students took it upon themselves to raise the funds.
It started as a class project with Moss Middle students studying different community organizations that had volunteer opportunities. Meagan Wagner wrote the final version of the grant after about a year of giving her own time usually after school.
But students didn't stop with the grant writing; they held a two week supply drive where badly needed items were collected for the Humane Society.
In addition to raising funds for this project these students raised public awareness about the Humane Society's goals by making community announcements and posters.
Students at Moss Middle said they want to continue giving to area organizations now that they have experience writing grants.
