Administrators of one local school district are pushing for random drug testing among students.
Student athletes, musicians, those who drive to school and others who participate in extra-curricular activities or clubs may be tested under a new policy in the Allen County school district.
This includes all teachers and students at the middle and high schools. The policy was first proposed in June 2006 and the board voted to pass it in September. There will be 15 random drug tests a year, beginning next month. The results are confidential. Any teacher who turns up positive will be terminated.
If you have questions about these tests, the Allen County school district is holding a public meeting next week.
If you' d like to attend, you can do so Nov. 30, 2006, at 5 p.m. in the Allen County - Scottsville High School auditorium.
