Turkey 911

Around 45 million turkeys will take center stage on American tables this afternoon, but getting them there isn't always easy. That's why we want to remind you that you don't have to be alone in the kitchen on Thanksgiving.

Here's ABC's Dan Harris.

You know how it goes: You buy your turkey, get it home, and then, uh, what happens then? When culinary catastrophe strikes call Coach Carol.

Carol Miller is the supervisor of the Butterball Turkey talk-line. She and about 50 other turkey experts will field about 10,000 calls on Thanksgiving.

"I had a wonderful young man early in my turkey talking career. His idea was to take his engagement ring, put it in the stuffing , cook the stuffing, put it in the turkey, then present it to his wonderful bride to be," Miller said about one of her most interesting call.

Miller and her colleagues train in test kitchens , and then, on the big day, they're part cooking coaches, part shrinks.

"We have had the new daughter-in-law standing in the closet whispering, and sometimes we have to settle disputes. One says press up one says press down and we have to give them the verdict," Miller said.

After Miller, who, during the off-season, slices turkey at a deli in Illinois, is finished talking turkey on Thanksgiving. She'll go home and make Thanksgiving dinner for her family.
