Each year the Fraternal Order of Police gives any where from 100 to 125 Thanksgiving baskets to people in the community who need assistance.
"When we go into public service we don't do it for money. None of us are going to get rich and being part of the FOP. It gives us an outlet, where we can help our community even more," Officer Sean Helbig said.
The baskets are filled with items that can supply the families with food for the entire Thanksgiving week.
"This gives us an opportunity to come out to their family and their house when it's a good time and show we are here to do more then just grab the bad guys up and to help them out with what we can," Helbig said.
The baskets were delivered on Nov. 20, 2006, in time for the families to prepares their Thanksgiving meals.
"Yeah I thank them for the food we get. Really appreciate it. You know I am pretty sick and I thank the Lord I am getting it," recipient BC Miller said.
But the Fraternal Order of Police is not done for this holiday season. They will continue their same mission for the Christmas holiday.
If you would like to donate to help with the cost of the Thanksgiving baskets or begin to help with the Christmas baskets, you can contact the Fraternal Order of Police at 270-782-6513.
