Usually when we run Hometown Hero segments we feature someone who has gone above and beyond by helping the community. However we rarely get the chance to find out how that hero's good work has made an impact in South Central Kentucky, but in this week's Hometown Hero we followed a story that shows how one lady's work has inspired others to do the same.
Barbara Duncan is going from being a WBKO Hometown Hero to a McNeill Elementary Hero. In the middle of August Duncan was featured as a hero after spending her lunch breaks picking up trash and cleaning up an area neighborhood. When school counselor, Claudia Downey, saw the story she knew Duncan was a perfect example for the students of a good citizen.
Students watched the story and decide to recognize Duncan by giving her thank you letters. Students were also inspired to start picking up trash on the playground.
