Many came out to Barren River Lake Saturday morning not to swim or relax but to pick up trash.
Volunteers walked the shoreline for the sixteenth annual Trashmasters Classic Lakeshore cleanup. More than 600 bags of trash were collected. After the cleanup, volunteers celebrated with a lake party.
The afternoon festivities included free food, several gifts, and savings bonds and cash prizes. Plus, prizes were given away to the oldest and youngest volunteers, the person who picked up the most trash and the one who picked up the most unusual items.
Park Ranger Lloyd Crabbe says he was pleased with this year's turnout and the difference these volunteers are making in their community. The Lakeshore cleanup is one of the largest volunteer projects in this area.
