Fletcher has been raising money and saying publicly for months that he planned to seek a second term at the top of Kentucky state government. The Governor filed his candidacy papers with the Secretary of State's office on Nov. 27, 2006.
Fletcher is the first Republican elected for the job in more than 30 years. He filed with Robbie Rudolph as his running mate.
Fletcher may face opposition in next year's Republican primary, despite being the incumbent. Billy Harper has said he plans to challenge the Governor. Harper is running television ads promoting his candidacy but has not filed official papers.
Attorney General Greg Stumbo said he might make a run. Stumbo said he would announce something before Dec. 1, 2006.
State Sen. Dan Seum has also said he is considering the possibility of getting into the race.
