Two Plead Guilty to Looting

Two Ohio men have pleaded guilty to stealing Native American artifacts from federal land in Western Kentucky.

U.S. Attorney David Huber said Richard Kirk and David Whitling admitted they entered federal land to dig for archeological relics, which violates the federal Archaeological Resources Protection Act.

The site, near Barren River Lake, contains numerous Native American Artifacts, including early woodlands ceramics that date back to roughly 1500 to 300 B.C.

Kirk faces up to two years in prison, and a $250,000 fine. Whitling faces up to one year in prison, and a $10,000 fine.
