Students at one area middle school are studying some explosive materials these days. With a little help from a Western professor some middle schoolers are learning about the interesting and exciting aspects of chemistry.
Professor Les Pesterfield is stepping outside of the classes he teaches at Western and bringing some excitement to Drakes Creek Middle School. Pesterfield and another professor make about 80 school visits a year.
The two professors perform all kinds of chemistry demonstrations for students that relate to the periodic chart of elements. He says he hopes his enthusiasm about the subject will motivate other students to take up the subject also.
