2007 Governor's Race Possible Candidates

Democrat Steve Beshear said he will make an announcement next week concerning next year's governor's race. Beshear will make his announcement with state Sen. Dan Mongiardo.

Sixty-two-year-old Beshear of Lexington, Ky., ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1987 and for U.S. senate in 1996. He has served as a state representative, attorney general and lieutenant governor.

U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler; State Auditor Crit Luallen; Louisville, Ky.; Mayor Jerry Abramson and former Governor Brereton Jones have all said they would not seek the Democratic nomination. But Billy Harper of Paducah, Ky., said he will seek the Republican nomination, along with Governor Fletcher who is seeking re-election.
