Bluegrass Legend Homer Ledford Dies

Homer Ledford died from an apparent stroke at the age of 79. Ledford's wife said he died the evening of Dec. 11, 2006, at his home in Winchester, Ky., after battling Lou Gehrig's Disease. The disease causes progressive paralysis.

Ledford was an Appalachian band leader who crafted hundreds of banjos and guitars. The Tennessee native started making instruments as a youngster. He later attended Berea College where he met his wife. The two would have celebrated their 54th anniversary on Dec. 20, 2006.
