Governor Fletcher now says Kentucky could afford some pricey university projects that were cut from the budget early this year.
Western Kentucky University lost nearly $57.3 million from the cuts. Fletcher said that after recently meeting with representatives from three bond agencies, he’s “more confident” Kentucky can afford some of the projects.
Kentucky lawmakers approved an $18.1 billion, two-year spending plan, to which Fletcher cut about $370 million worth of projects across the state.
Lawmakers seem ready to spend at least a portion of the surplus money on restoring what the governor’s veto pen scrapped.
