The hot weather made today perfect for selling lemonade!
Alex's Lemonade Stands are part of a national foundation that has been raising money for six years to help find a cure for childhood cancer.
It all began with Alex Scott, a young girl who helped start the nationwide foundation before passing away in 2004 from cancer at the age of eight.
Saturday around 30 stands were held here in Warren County.
They were able to raise more than 19 thousand dollars.
Alex's Lemonade Stands here locally were started by the Miller family in 2005.
In it's fifth year their excited about how much the event has grown.
We caught up with the family to bring you more on a 15-year-old girl that helps to keep the event going each year.
Lemonade stands, all day, everywhere in Warren County.
All leading up to the grand stand in the afternoon.
"We've had a lot of great help," said 15-year-old Riley Miller. "It was a hot day today, but we've had some awesome volunteers that dedicated their time to the lemonade stands."
You can find Miller each year at one of Alex's Lemonade Stands.
Her and her family began Alex's Lemonade Stands in the Bowling Green area in 2005 when they wanted to help other families.
"I had two baby brothers that both passed away from rare forms of childhood cancer, and actually, the first brother I had that passed away was in the same hospital as Alex Scott," said Miller.
That's when Riley and her family found out about Alex's story and the lemonade stands.
"My family had to experience what it was like to have a child going through that, and it was terrible," said Miller. "We don't want any other family to have to experience that."
From their personal experience, Riley's family has helped bring awareness of a national event to our community to help other families she may never even meet.
"We called a bunch of friends, and then friends of friends wanted to get involved and help out," said Miller. "It just kept growing. Word about it kept growing around the community, and now today we're having 30 stands. We're having this big grand stand. I never thought when we started out that we would raise as much money as we have and that we would have this great of a turnout. The community has been so giving and caring. We're just so appreciative."
In the first four years of the stands being in Warren County, Riley says the volunteers have helped raise around 70-thousand dollars.
