Ky. Teen Smoking Rates Down

Fewer Kentucky teenagers are smoking, according to a study done by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Ky. High School Students Who Smoke:
2000: 37.4%
2002: 34.2%
2004: 27.9%
2006: 24.5%

The survey shows that efforts to promote healthy lifestyle choices, including not smoking, have connected with more Kentucky teens.

Governor Fletcher said the results of this survey are good news for the future health of Kentuckians. He also adds avoiding tobacco use is one of the smartest choices one can take in terms of preventative health care and is a key goal of his new “Get Healthy Kentucky” initiative.
