One of the icons of American television cartoons died Monday, Dec. 18. Joseph Barbera, along with partner Bill Hanna, created some of the most beloved cartoon characters in American television.

It started with "Tom and Jerry," a battling cat and super-smart mouse, who won the team seven academy awards.

Then there was Yogi Bear, always going after a pic-a-nic basket and of course, the Flintstones, followed by their futuristic counterparts, the Jetsons and Huckleberry Hound.

Bill Hanna died in 2001. Joseph Barbera died Monday at his home with his wife Sheila at his side. He was 95.
