Pike County troopers are mourning the loss of a second trooper in a week.
Monday afternoon, Dec. 25, Kentucky State Police Detective Stewart Joey Howard was found unresponsive at his home in the community of Regina, in Pike County.
Forty-five-year-old Howard was pronounced dead at his home by the Pike County coroner.
The investigation into Detective Howard’s death continues although there are no signs of foul play.
A State Police spokesperson said Howard wasn’t married but had family in the area and suicide is not suspected.
Howard’s death comes just two days after Pike County trooper Jonathan Leonard was laid to rest. Trooper Leonard died in a car accident last Tues., Dec. 19, on US 119 in Sydney.
